ACDC in collaboration with Auroville Design consultants has built a prototype twin house in the coastal village of Chinnamudaliarchavady. The objectives of this project are three fold:

1) Demonstrate optimum land use within each housing plot.

2) Provide one unit of the twin house for the Government Primary School of Chinnamudaliarchavady during the day and use it as Night School in the evenings. The other unit of the twin house will be used by the women of the livelihood project Tsunamika to conduct their meetings and also to use it as a work space.

3) Use these units as an advocacy tool for alternative shelter in order to encourage the Government of Tamil Nadu, NGOs and Community Based Organisations building shelters in the Tsunami Reconstruction phase to restudy the proposed housing models.
